April 4 - August 31, 2009 Planting Fields Arboretum and Coe Hall Mansion Open For Season

Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park


April is a great time to visit the arboretum to enjoy the magnificent Magnolia collection located on the west side of the Coe Hall Mansion.  Visitors can enjoy the spring display in the Main Greenhouse as well and have a tasty bite to eat at the Garden Cafe by Periwinkles on weekends only.   Starting on Saturday, April 4th and running through Monday, August 31st, the "Fabulous Fakes" Kenneth Jay Lane Exhibition will be on display in the Manor House.  Exhibition hours are 11:30am - 3:30pm.  A selection of Kenneth Jay Lane merchandise will be available for purchase at the Gift Shop inside the Visitor's Center.  Exhibition Fee: $6.50 adults/$5 Seniors/$3.50 Students/Members and children under 12 are free.  The exhibition fee also includes children's activities and a self-guided tour of Coe Hall.  For more information call (516) 922-8600 or visit www.plantingfields.org.  Admission to the park is $6 except for special events. The grounds are open 9am - 5pm and the Main Greenhouse and Camellia Greenhouse are open 10am - 4pm daily.  The Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park is located in Oyster Bay.

June 4 - August 20, 2009 Free Concerts in Oyster Bay

The Big Apple Circus presents its all-new show featuring renowned circus artists from around the world. Indoors and out, the Ridder MiniArtMuseum for Children is the enthralling setting for a magical museum experience!  Pathways to the MiniArtMuseum pass enchanted gardens, a giant chessboard, the Queen's croquet grounds, and the Mad Hatter's Tea Party. Get ready for another exciting Long Island State Parks' Summer Run Series.  Sign up and be part of the most successful running series on Long Island.  Sponsored by Long Island State Parks, WBAB, WBLI, Newsday, New Living Magazine, Long Island Philharmonic, Dover Caterers, Super Runners Shop and Odwalla. The Sands Point Preserve


The Falaise Mansion on the grounds of the 216-acre Sands Point Preserve is now open for guided tours, four days a week. July 4, 2009 Fireworks Spectacular

The perfect way to celebrate the holiday. Come early for a good spot and watch this incredible display of pyro-technics just off the shores of Jones Beach State Park.  The show will be simulcast on WALK-FM 97.5 and starts at 9:30pm, on (when else?) July 4-5, 2009 Independence Day Festivities at Sagamore Hill

Bring your family and friends, dressed in your best patriotic attire to join the activities at Sagamore Hill on July 4th and 5th. Events are free.
   July 4th-
11AM - "Birds of Prey" demonstration includes a hawk, owl and falcon.
12 noon - 4pm - Children's Crafts activities
1pm - Equestrian demonstration featuring "Rough Rider" re-enactors.
1:30pm - Old-fashioned kid's games
2pm - Sagamore Hill Band concert on the lawn (bring a blanket or chair)
Hot dogs, hamburgers, popcorn, ice cream and soft drinks will be available for sale

2pm - Professional Storyteller Jonathan Kruk. Ideal for families with elementary school children.

July 4, 2009 1860s July Fourth Celebration!

Old Bethpage Village Restoration


Experience what Independence Day was like in 1865 at the historically rich Old Bethpage Village Restoration.  Be part of the celebration when Union soldiers return from the Civil War to a marching band (2pm) and then hear period music from the Old Bethpage Brass Band (3:15pm).  The soldiers will drill one last time and fire a salute to fallen comrades.  This year, there will be a "base ball" game played to 1880s rules, equipment and uniforms between the Glen Head Zig Zags and the New York Mutuals.  Hours are 10am - 4pm Wednesday thru Friday and 10am - 5pm Saturday and Sunday.  Fees: $7 for children 5-12, seniors and volunteer fire fighters; $10 for adults. The 12th Annual Long Island International Film Expo will feature the work of independent film makers in all genres of film.
